How to Hire a DJ

Wedding planning is long, tough, strenuous, and any other adjective you can think of to describe a drawn out process. There are so many things to think about and plan out that you might forget about one or two of them if you aren’t careful. The one thing that you absolutely can’t forget about is the DJ. Music will power your party, so you need to get it right. Here’s a guide on how to pick your DJ.

Make sure to meet them
You should absolutely never hire a DJ without meeting them. Just because a company is well respected doesn’t mean it’s the company that you will want to work with. The thing about big DJ companies is that they are usually hiring, firing, and re-hiring all sorts of new people. Make sure that you get to talk with the actual person who will be doing your show. This way, you can ensure that the DJ is the person who you want to be keeping your guests entertained. You should be, above everything else, very comfortable with the person who you hire. That’s the most important factor of all.

Written contract is a must
Make sure that you get everything in writing. When you hire a DJ, you need to have a contract with that person. Your contract should have a number of different items, including the name of the DJ you will be working with, the date and time of the event, all of the costs, and anything else you see fit to include. You will also want to include the conditions under which the agreement can be halted. If there is something that you absolutely must have in order for your wedding night to be a great one, then put it in writing.

Insist on a consultation
If your DJ doesn’t provide consultations, then find someone who does. DJs will try to impose their will and do what they want. It’s your wedding, it’s your money, so you should be the one making the rules. Make sure you sit down with the DJ and let them know exactly what you are looking for. Don’t leave anything to chance. In addition, these consultations need to be free. You shouldn’t have to spend extra money on the DJ just to get it right.

Ask to see their music
Don’t make any assumptions about a particular DJ. Just because they are with a certain radio station doesn’t necessarily mean that they are going to be carrying the type of music you want at your wedding. DJs can be an interesting lost in regards to the music they own and play. Make sure you find a DJ who both owns and is willing to play the type of music that will power your party. You don’t want to get left out with a pile of brand new music, when what you wanted was oldies.

These things will help you land a good DJ, but it’s still not a sure thing. The only thing you can do is put in enough research to ensure that you have made the right moves. That’s really all that can be done.
