How to Look your Best on your Big Day

Your wedding day is a very big deal, so you want to look your best. Everyone will be watching you, and many will be photographing or videotaping the day for the permanent record. Though you’re confident enough to walk down the aisle, you still want to look your very best.

Most of the “big things” are covered. You’ve picked a dress that flatters your body. The hairdresser is sure to create a style that’s perfect for you. Your husband-to-be’s outfit couldn’t be better. But the little things can put the perfecting touches on the big day. Here are some tips on the tiny touches that can change so much.

• If you’re wearing new makeup on the big day, give it a test run at least a week before. You want to be sure that the tones work, you don’t break out, and that the lipstick won’t rub off on your teeth.

• Test the flowers before the big day as well. A flower that looks gorgeous, but does not smell all that great to you, is probably not the right choice.

• Remember to make your brand-new shoes fall-proof for your walk down the aisle. A little sandpaper will rough up the soles so that they don’t send you sliding in front of everybody. If you forget to do this before the ceremony, just walk to the nearest driveway or sidewalk and scuff your shoes along the surface. A few passes should do the trick.

• You and your husband-to-be have probably kissed many times before. But remember that you’ll be sharing your first kiss as husband and wife – in front of the people you love the most. Practicing a family-appropriate kiss before the ceremony will eliminate the confusion that many couples have when they lean in for this one.

• Make sure that your husband-to-be is in on the planning. He’s one-half of the couple, so make sure that you listen to his input and discuss things with him. Your wedding will be more memorable if both of you have worked on it together.

• You don’t want to be bloated on your wedding day. For at least one day before the ceremony, you should avoid the foods that make you gassy or bloated. These include beans and cabbage, lettuce, et cetera.

• Stay hydrated before the wedding. You’ll look and feel better, from your toes all the way to the top of your head, if you’ve been taking in enough fluids.

• Maintain a healthy diet before the wedding, too. Lots of “stress foods” might sound good because you’re so nervous about this huge event, but partake in moderation. You’ll look and feel better if you stick mostly to a healthy diet.

• Do your best to get enough sleep before the wedding. This isn’t easy for many brides, because the wedding day is such a big deal. But do your best anyway. Getting enough rest every night the week or two before the wedding will leave you refreshed, looking great, and ready to walk down the aisle.

There are many small things you can do to make yourself look, and feel, your very best for this event. Your family, friends and other loved ones will probably share their own pre-wedding tips and tricks with you. Wedding magazines and Web sites are also loaded with good information about this sort of thing.
